The Creators Project

The Creators Project is awesome. crumble fully intends to be there when it comes to London. There are various ways you can get tickets. You can follow The Creators Project on facebook and maybe Vice will give you a ticket or you can apply for them on Monday from 10am. Don’t do it though, because it will lower my chances of getting tickets!

A little while ago we went to see Neon Indian and the below video from the Creators Project was obviously filmed at the same time. All of the gig footage is from the concert at C.A.M.P. in Shoreditch which we brought you exclusive coverage of and you can see Heron Tower in the background if you are keen.

Check it out!

Well, lucky souls that you are, I trust the good news reaches you in earnest! Micachu and Raisa of The Shapes will be our honoured guests on 3rd July when the crumble residents James and Dunc will be warming you up with their summer sundaze mix (believe!) Mario and Luigi style, as well as the latest and greatest of mind boggling tunes that have been creaking their way into the said pair’s welcoming ear drums.

Moreover, here is a little stinky preview of the dirty shit that is going to get you daggerin’ on the dancefloor come that glorious first Saturday of July.

Micachu and The Shapes – Vulture is the opening track on Jewellery (Rough Trade 2009) if you haven’t got that album then you need it, it is truly one of the seminal works of 2009 in my most humble opinion!

Micachu has a history of working with grime artists and she shows her routes on this great hip hop track from Ghost Poet, Morning. Big shout out to the mention of Coventry (my home town, not proud of it!) in this song!

She also worked with the Mercury Music Prize winning Speech Debelle on one of the best tracks on her fantastic album, Better Days.

This remix of Lips by Astronomer is pretty much incredible.

Same song remixed by We Have Band (I think there has been a MixxxxOfffffff because there is a Micachu remix of Oh! somewhere if you can find it!)

And big fans of Metronomy that we are Micachu’s bizarre remix of Radio Ladio had to feature

Mica in the middle and Raisa on the left!

I think that should bring you up to speed on the talent that is Mica Levi, but there is nothing better than the real thing, as they say, so get yourself down to crumble on Saturday 3rd July. From 7pm we will be playing some of the best music you will hear anywhere in London and it’s going to get messy later. This is still a free event so you better not miss out, I’m just warning you…

Jamaica + Ten Bears + Dancing Guy 10/06/2010

Apologies for not getting around to the Stag and Dagger debauchery post I know you were all looking forward to but that was too extreme for the internet. Just look up ‘King Neptune’ on urban dictionary!

Anyway, the good time guys and gals of crumble united have been to an unusual amount of gigs for our otherwise-apathetic couch loafing selves. On 10th June, last week some time, we went to see Jamaica at The Lexington in Islington. First stop Tortilla of course!

The first band Ten Bears were pretty good actually. I remember very little about them except for this double-denim lunatic dancing in front of us. I was convinced he was a girl until my friends pointed out that he was in fact a guy, but then, from his dance moves I think anyone would have come to the same conclusion. He was fun.

Jamaica, as you might know from previous posts are a new Kitsuné label band who have been on the scene as Pony Pony for a while but never made it big. They are back with a more rocky sound which is fun, lively and happy. It’s a good sound but it’s nothing new. Essentially your standard verse-chorus 3 piece band (lead & vocals, bass, drums) they play quite standard songs.

You wouldn’t think so having heard I Think I Like U 2 and seen the video! However, sadly, the band didn’t quite live up to my expectations and whilst they were short and entertaining (boom boom!) they were lacking in the spark that exudes from I Think I Like U 2.  Probably the best moment of the gig was when the band were trying to bring the crowd forward to make people dance near the front insisting that they wanted to see dancing and I shouted (yes, Jamaica, it was I) “c’est la fete!” which pleased the French band and the crowd went mental and bought me loads of drinks and were stuffing drugs up my nose and girls were literally taking all their clothes off and trying to dagger with me naked (which is basically sex btw).

The dude is a God though!

Lady Gaga

I once stumbled upon a Drowned in Sound forum thread which said something to the effect of ‘I am slowly coming to the conclusion that Lady Gaga is truly a once in a generation artist’. Now, on Drowned in Sound, this was likely some hillaaaarious ironic statement (their forums are genuinely funny!), but I am, genuinely, slowly coming to the conclusion that she is a great artist, possibly even a genius.

She writes amazingly original and outstanding pop songs.

Her videos are incredible. Almost to the point of disbelief.

And my personal favourite:

I just don’t think we can pass her off as a joke/transvestite Madonna clone anymore. She is truly incredible, whether you like her music or not.
